Dr. Stephen Harward earned a BA degree in Biology and Religion from Duke University, Durham, NC, in 2006 followed by an MD and a PhD in Neurobiology from the Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC in 2016. From 2016 to 2023 he completed a neurosurgical residency and fellowship in stereotactic, epilepsy, and functional neurosurgery at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. During this time, he also completed a 1 year post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Jim McNamara. He is now an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. His research interests include development of non-invasive therapies for brain disease, neuromodulation of synaptic plasticity for treating disease, and focused ultrasound. He is the recipient of a National Institute of Health (NIH) pre-doctoral (F32) and post-doctoral (R25) training award, the Burroughs Welcome Fund Research Technician Support Grant, Society of Neurological Surgeon Research Award and has been named a Whitehead Scholar in the Duke University School of Medicine.
